Hey guys, Bomber here with a special announcement!
Over the course of this afternoon and evening, generic, Crystal, Erelye, Fseftr and I have been working on the most recent of Twin's cipher puzzles. I am now here to post our findings! I will start with the two things we figured out first. The second was encoded.
EYES ALL AROUND ME, YET NONE CAN SEE THE TRUTH. YOU THINK THERE'S SOMETHING OFF WITH MY HAT? YOU ONLY SEE WHAT I ALLOW YOU TO SEE.
IF IT'S RIDDLES YOU'RE INTERESTED IN THEN YOU'RE IN LUCK. I'VE GOT THE BIG PICTURE RIGHT HERE IF YOU’RE STUCK.
We then moved on to decode the list of 28 encoded words. We found out that each word responded to the title of a player from DTG2, so we then wrote each player's name next to the title we found.
The series of letter and number pairings on the left there represent PAGE, POST, LINE, and LETTER respectively. We had to go to the DTG2 thread and search by author, and then use the information to help us find one letter for each user. This came together to be a URL to this pastebin:
Which contained two things, a cipher and an image. I broke the cipher:
YOU FELL FOR THE TRAP OF KNOWLEDGE'S TEMPTATION. A PIECE HAS BEEN SHOWN, JUST A MEAGER FOUNDATION.
The image is art done by Twin, which resembles the end cards for Gravity Falls.
I then decoded the two number ciphers (a lot of these were multi-layered, but followed a pattern) giving us the following phrase:
"THE LEAKING PEN THINKS HIMSELF CLEVER. CAN HE HIDE HIS PLANS FOREVER?"
There are hidden messages around the end card that we have yet to solve, so hey, please help us if you can!
Lastly, I want to note that the others and I had a lot of fun with this! Seriously, huge kudos to you, Twin, for designing this whole thing! He told us there will be more of these in the future.
EDIT 1: Adding the solution to the Galactic Alphabet code. We still need to solve the barcode along the margins and Twin's special code in the top right.
Looking at that pic, the handwriting is actually legible, kinda like the Authors from Gravity Falls. Starting from the top left and going clockwise:
The [illegible] Figure is [seen?] [illegible] mythology are [as?] [illegible] if the [programmed? programmer?]. Just what does it really mean?
INCOMPLETE
Figure [illegible] To replicate a [illegible], to [illegible] mastery of [illegible]... What would I do [with that?]?
Observations of geometry [on?] leads to new discoveries. Of life, death, and [reality?].
The Black Disc
The [illegible] price of the [illegible]. Why do these happen? Anomalies? [Observations?]?
This is nonetheless quite interesting. The page seems to be from Twin's Character's (forgot his name) journal. Peculiar....
Let me help you out with that. Only look in the spoiler if you want the mysteries of this page to be revealed in all their glory, removing the element of mystery and the satisfaction of figuring out things for yourself. You've been warned.
The Scribe's Writing
The Delta Figure is seen throughout mythology as a harbinger of the paranormal. But what does it really mean?
INCOMPLETE
Figure 901
To replicate a body, to obtain mastery of avatars' forms... What could I do with that?
Observations of geometry can lead to new discoveries. Of life, death, and rebirth.
The Eleventh Disc
The missing piece of the puzzle. Why do these happen? Anomalies? Obstructions?
The black symbols in the lower right corner of the page are the alchemical symbols of, from left to right: sulfur, arsenic, antimony, and stone. The two red symbols are also alchemic - the one in the upper-left is another symbol of sulfur, and the one in the lower-right is salt. The bright orange symbol next to that is the coat of arms Project Binary used throughout DTG2 - how it's in this book is unknown.
The diagram above the drawing of a disc shows a furnace system - the input's on the top, the fuel input's on the bottom, and next to those are an arrow and the output. The triangle in between the fuel and the input is the alchemical symbol for fire.
The quadratic formula can be seen on the left side of the Delta Figure at the top-left. The Pythagorean theorem can be seen on the right side.
The six squares with orange symbols in them are a net - a two-dimensional representation of a three-dimensional object. What exactly it means (and what the symbols next to it are) are unknown. I will say that the symbols are in a language only I know - they're indecipherable.
The symbols below that are in the Standard Galactic Alphabet used in the Commander Keen series of video games. What does that have to do with this forum? Well, they can be seen near enchanting tables in Minecraft. It says "REAL SUFFERING IS NOT KNOWN."
The lines on the borders of the page are Morse Code.
The numbers in red text must be decrypted through A1Z26, Atbash, and Ceaser. They read "THE LEAKING PEN THINKS HIMSELF CLEVER. CAN HE HIDE HIS PLANS FOREVER?"
An Escutcheon is a shield or emblem bearing a coat of arms.
Huh.
An escutcheon isn't just a coat of arms. In the diction of Mark Twain, it came to represent a skull and crossbones - which he portrayed as looking like this:
The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything.

I need to up my game.
However, Twin has a slight advantage here in that he was, you know, GM. I still want to do a virtual scavenger hunt thing like this though. For now, I'll just post this link: http://s15.zetaboards.com/DTG_Forums/topic/8082991/1/#new . And no, that isn't the start of my little spoiler scavenger hunt. It's just the animations I've made. I'll probably want to make an animation as a part of my quest though.
...
I still don't really know what's up with Twin's story, but I suspect that's kinda the point.

Man, tons of coded stuff, oh well, here's some work I've been doing for my sidequest:

I still don't really know what's up with Twin's story, but I suspect that's kinda the point.
It's fine if you don't know what's going on, because there's not much to know. So far, all the Scribe's done is summon entities and attack people. The big thing is that his attacks and entities are hinting at a dark past that no one really knows - he's been to everywhere and back, and he's made a lot of enemies. The story about the Scribe is going to revolve around how he uses his power here - and what consequences his ultimate quest will bring.
OK, on Twin's weird 'impossible to solve' language, there are context clues for it.
First off, back in DTG2, the Godmodder had a 3-character word floating to the left of his head when he broke the credits. It translates to HEH. Second, during his Archaic Waffle Sorceror attack, he wrote WAFFLE (though the A-character is re-designed). Finally, we understand the first three letters in the first 'journal page' are THE, though the latter is unknown except it's still a 3-letter combo, and it's not BOX, ARM or GOD.
I think it is very safe to assume that it will end in pain and suffering. Agreed?
The entities are tied to the lines in your earlier codes, that's pretty obvious.
However, as for your new signature, here's Star's response:
"Ugh. Add The Scribe to the watch list of people I'm working with who cannot be allowed to achieve their goals. In this game alone, Erelye, Richard, and possibly Pane are already on that list. Possibly Pane, because I'm not sure whether I'm working with him."
If you read DTG2, you'd know the Scribe doesn't want to cause the end of the world - by the end of the game, he's going to want to prevent it. Besides, that's not the Scribe talking. It's... someone else.

Oh boy! You have a list of people you want to stop? How do you apply?
Thing is, none of my villains (all two and a half of them) are exactly evil. Because I'm a bleeding heart hippie, I always think that evil might be the means to an end, but is never the end itself. Nobody else seems to agree with me, but I like my philosophy.
If you had a choice between siding with a bunch of authoritarian people who are perfectly happy to execute anyone and everyone that opposes them, or with an army of terrorists who give little damns if they accidentally get civilians caught in the crossfire of their battles so long as their enemies die, who would you join?
If you want, I can reconfigure this question to, if forced to, would you rather work for Adolf Hitler, or for Joseph Stalin?
If you had a choice between siding with a bunch of authoritarian people who are perfectly happy to execute anyone and everyone that opposes them, or with an army of terrorists who give little ***** if they accidentally get civilians caught in the crossfire of their battles so long as their enemies die, who would you join?
If you want, I can reconfigure this question to, if forced to, would you rather work for Adolf Hitler, or for Joseph Stalin?
...
You're trying to force me into something, aren't you? Fine. Have your answer.
Mu.
I love that answer. It means "the question is wrong." The world isn't black and white like that. Life never (or at least, very rarely) sorts itself into convenient white and black situations like these. Or, black and black. You open up by saying "if you had a choice". So... I'd leave my nice, educated, upper middle class, developed nation life to willingly go to one of these places? Yeah, no. Also, morality is VERY situational. I can't make a judgement call from one sentence of description. There's all kinds of messy stuff with situations, intents, means, and stuff and things.
As for the rephrased question, it's still Mu. You seem to try rather hard to be "the edgy guy" and phrase questions like that. There were other countries in existence during WW2 you know. Like Chile. Also, being a citizen of either one of those nations or even a member of the party responsible does not mean the person in some way sides with the leader's ideology. Please try to not commit the Fundamental Attribution Error. It's not that many German soldiers actually wanted to kill people who disagreed with the government. I doubt that any of us privileged, internet accessing people can come close to understanding the pressure put on people like that, socially, economically, and mentally. It's completely unfair to judge other people without being able to understand their situation. Were you trying to get me to pick between two ideological extremes? (order and liberty). If so, then sorry. They are not mutually exclusive anyway.
Regardless, I'll shut up now. This is not the place for arguments like this.
@FBSN: Well, if I said what Inari and Mikoto's "good" goals were, that would ruin the surprise! Right now, (and by that I mean in a few years time. After DTG2 finished.) Mikoto and Inari are trying to get their champions (Cynder and Wilson, respectively) to each murder the other one. Yeah. Two lives. That's about as high stakes as my plotline gets. Inari has no clue where Wilson is though.
If I told you why they're trying that, it wouldn't be a secret anymore. It's probably going to be revealed sometime in the later half of the game, depending on what I can work with other people. Or, you can actually piece together a reasonable guess pretty soon, but it would be a stretch. And you need to read TvT. There are also a couple hints in the animations I've made.

3. That last letter might not actually be G.

GIVE UP THE PAST, EMBRACE THE STRANGE
EVERYTHING YOU CARE ABOUT WILL CHANGE
There's a difference between a hero and a champion. A champion overcomes threats, but a hero overcomes fears.
