Twin, the thin I said about Tricky, I'd like to give my personal opinion on story stuff.
It doesn't make sense to have the hexahedron the central 'processing unit' for all reality, or even the whole multiverse.
There's one simple reason for that:
Time travel. The multiverse has been established to run on time loops, so if the hexahedron really were processing all of the multiverse, it would be doing so with the entire multiversal timeline.
In short, the Glitch would be ten times worse than what would've happened had Dimentio gotten his doom attack off completely fully charged no return.
Additionally, the ramifications would've been much greater in the first game, and during the events of Fez.
I think that it works better described as being as centerpoint for the gathering of the Trifecta.
It was used to hinge all the universes on it so that everything would stick together, so as a result, when it got scratched, everything starts whizzing out since the central mechanic holding all the universes together at that point is no longer working properly. The Glitch would be most prominent in the central three universes, and getting slowly weaker and weaker the further away from the Trifecta itself one traveled.
Maybe that's the point, though, that if this Glitch gets too severe it WOULD in fact be ten times as worse as Paradox Dimentio's existence-ending attack, somehow?
I believe that the Scratch Bill initiated only at first targeted Minecraft, in a time frame we are currently in. However, the Glitch will continue to grow and start to affect the Trifecta, and eventually the entire omniverse. It will also start actually affecting the past, warping it beyond recognition. Hey, maybe this Scratch actually IS the cause of the DTG1 Glitch, because it affects the entire timeline of Minecraft. Maybe the two are actually the same Glitch.

That's... actually an excellent explanation for quite a few things. Twin also may have stated the Hexahedron would only remain intact so long indirectly, with the whole "you will see in a little bit" part. At that, I think the current stability of reality is not going to last much longer, which is quite beneficial to... some.
(Also, Fseftr, this is a horrible time to post any of that fanfic. The worst possible time, I would say).

It's like you haven't seen any of my posts on this thread. Why would you say that? Luckily for you, I don't have any more written, I've been working on the current Blue plotline. BTW Serpent, check out my Serpent x Erelye fanfic a couple of pages back.
No, because such a scratch would affect everything immediately, and if it really were to fragment, it wouldn't have just affected DTG1, it would have screwed up everything.
And might I point out that had Dimentio unleashed his final ability the entire multiverse would've been eradicated? That was done as a small side thing, but having a major plot point that's fixated on and foreshadowed for a long time be that bad? That's jumping the gun (and the shark) in terms of serial escalation, on top of a bunch of other things. It is twin's choice, but I don't believe that making the hexahedron the center of all reality is a wise idea story-wise.

This is not the cause of the DTG1 Glitch. Back then, I misused the Fez and completely shattered the Hexahedron. Since it could no longer keep reality in check, it started glitching out. Now that Bill's Scratched the Hexahedron, that's what's going on now, but in a much more contained form so it will really only affect GodCraft itself. Now that it's affecting a smaller area, though, expect it to be a lot more potent!
(Of course, it's only targeting GodCraft for NOW. If you don't stop it, it will move on...)
So yeah, the explanation that the hexahedron contains all the code of reality really doesn't work. You completely shattered it in the first game and all you got was a glitch. Breaking the mainframe of reality would do a whole lot more than glitch out text prompts.

The glitch was the manifestation of reality itself breaking down, not just any old glitch! It's represented in Minecraft as a glitch because that's what makes sense in its code-based environment. And yes, it DID do a whole lot more than glitch out text prompts. Entities got corrupted, players got health bars and could permadie, and the environment of the server glitched out as well. It got pretty bad by the end of it.
I know, but it can't be the center of programming for ALL of reality, otherwise it would have affected more than the server itself. It makes far more sense to have it be one of the Narrative's obnoxious plot constructs (like the update terminals) that exist as a way to control events more thoroughly. It also keeps people from trying to top it by actually wiping out entire universes in one go in the next couple of games.
But once again, there's the story reason. If it were the mainframe for all reality, the consequences of shattering would have been instant death. Not a gradually growing glitch. At most, it would be more like a hub, latching on to a specific portion of the multiverse and monitoring whatever is in it. Acting as the thing that allows all the cross-over stuff despite the fact that first guardian powers should not, in fact, work in Minecraft, and Minecraftians shouldn't be able to respawn on Alternia.
To sum up this disagreement over the Hexahedron: Phlebotinium can't do whatever we think it should? Bah! It has to be logical!
BUT: Here's my take. The Hexahedron is a bunch of parallel computers (the pieces), that together can handle all of reality, but apart, or damaged, have issues which manifest as glitches in Minecraftia, etc.
In other news, if you're not busy (you are busy), Twin, could I bother you for an avatar? I was thinking ant farm (from the original HEX), connected to a computer tower. With blinky lights.

Its not the fact that its phlebotinium. Its the fact that there's got to be a point where we draw the line. First of all, the central core of reality wouldn't be NEARLY that easy to get at, and so far I have yet to hear a better explanation for why a sudden jump from 'Minecraft is the only universe completely at stake from the outcome of the war, with the history of a few others hinging on it as well' to 'A single event brings the entire multiverse crashing down around our ears because somehow Bill Cipher got strong enough to break reality more thoroughly than the MUTIVERSE DESTROYING CLOWN could do WITH a doomsday artifact' is necessary, or even advisable.

Okay, look. I didn't make up the Hexahedron, okay? I got it from somewhere, from a game, and I am borrowing its mechanics to make a gameplay feature. In FEZ, the game where I got this thing from, the Hexahedron breaks and it's up to the player to restore its various parts. While he does that, the universe glitches around them. That's what's going on now.
