Time zone differences are annoying. What if DTG&D was set up like DTG proper? That way, we'd all be able to get in actions, regardless of where we are. Granted, the session would take a year to resolve, but it'd work out for everyone. Maybe.

Yep. Given that I'm on the west coast, and would like to be at least somewhat involved, I support the long-term game. That said, who's the GM gonna be?
I concur with that idea. I live in Texas and there's no way I'd be able to find time, I'm hardly ever able to get on the memo at all, let alone at the times other people are on.
Question, would it be legitimate to have multiple characters in the DTG&D game? Like, Eric gets dragged into the thing, Piono decides that since its a non-canon adventure he might as well stop trying to kill people, and brings Phobos and Sauron with him, and Tricky joins in out of pure curiosity. Maybe at some point have somebody's side character that's been dead for an act get revived in the game, and then show up wanting to join the session.
But that's just an idea. I think this'd be fun to do.
