Orothec moves E 4 times and charges his railgun.

Norbert moves SE 6 times and E 2 times. Norbert uses Rush to move E 1 time, attacks Stomp-Bot with Pointy Little Teeth, and then uses Rush to move S 1 time.

Chloe tries to move as far to the west as possible, then builds a Healing Sentry between her and the Stompbot.

Because this is taking too long, a pulse of distortion in the air seems to have... affected the Stomp Bot. All attacks against and by the Stomp Bot have +20% crit chance.

Joe overwatches. Yay.

Cyano moves up the bridge, but doesn't have phase shift. So instead, he uses Magic Blade: Nature.

Well, Windowmaker runs back behind cover and shoots at the Stomp Bot. 60% base, -10% from range, *1.3 from dex = 65% hit chance, which misses. So, scatter time.

x = -2.148
y = -3.337
z = -0.968

It hits anyway, which surprises absolutely nobody. 28% crit chance, which works! 18 damage base, +2 from dex, *1.2 from weakness, *1.5 from mini-crit = 36 damage. Oh cripes. It's a devastating blow that punches a hole straight through the Stomp Bot's leg.

Paydaar CHARGES down the Stomp Bot with moving 3 blocks in a straight line (I almost missed that).

With the Warhammer: 75% base, +20% from dex, +15% from enemy reflex = 110% chance, so you have a 30% crit chance, and it mini-crits! It deals 11 base, +4 from str, +3 from trample, *1.5 from crit, *1.2 from enemy weakness = 32 damage!

Lawrence hops down into the hole and charges his railgun, after I altered the move slightly to avoid fall damage. Down here, the light is almost blinding. There is some kind of cage, although its positioning means that right now, the Annoying Modeler is standing on the top of it. Through the window of the iron door, you think you see a small flash of soft white light. If you get next to the button, you can push it without spending an action.

Orothec moves behind a wooden barricade and charges his railgun.

Norbert rushes towards the Stomp Bot and tries to bite it, with 100% base, +15% from enemy reflex = 115% hit chance, and it fails to crit. It deals 9 base, -2 from AC, *0.5 from resistance = 3 damage. It's something at least.

Because healers have a hard time healing themselves, Mei moves SE 2 and S 1 to go heal Chloe and... wait... uh oh. You don't have a shot, because Paydaar is in the way. So... because of this, I'll postpone your action for a moment.

Chloe makes like a healer and runs away, placing a healing turret down as well. I don't have a special model for the turret, so just have a cube of your color. It has 3 potential wounded targets, Chloe, Orothec, and the Annoying Modeler. So it randomly targets Orothec, and restores 6 HP to him.

Now Mei has a shot, and gets a mini-crit, restoring 10 base, +4 from SPT, *1.5 from mini-crit = 21 HP!

Now I get to pick how best to kill you guys with the $ transition. Joe, you were probably expecting me to target you, but I'm more concerning with trying to kick Windowmaker. So I pretty much have to use the $ to transition to state 2. So, the Stomp Bot targets the player furthest away, which is Windowmaker. It also rotates shield B to Light. The Stomp Bot stomps its way over to Windowmaker, moving up+South east twice, south east once, south four times, then one more south east. It's in melee range of Windowmaker, so it uses Feet of Fury and kicks her twice and one block of her cover once. But for a sniper, you're actually not really very squishy.

80% base, -45% from reflex = 35% chance to hit, but they both land. Neither crits, though. Each deal 11 damage, so 20 damage after AC.

The Stomp Bot then decides that its people need it and flies straight upwards because it transitions to state 5. You know Piono, if you had 2 more AGI, you could use Hookshot on the Stomp Bot, zip towards it and latch on to it in an incredibly stupid but hilarious move. Anyway... After rotating shield A to resist cold, it shoots a laser barrage at Mei because she's the furthest away. It's a range of 19.5 meters, so -45% accuracy.

First laser: 80% base, -45% from range = 35%, which misses. Scatter time.

x = 5.58
y = 1.17
z = -4.99

The laser flies off and zaps a plank block out of existence. Next laser!

80% base, -45% from range = 35%, which also misses.

x = -5.04
y = -6.21
z = 3.46

The shot actually hits Chloe. It's a 20% crit chance, and I rolled a 20. A 20.4, that is. So it's not a crit. Still, Chloe, now thankful for getting crit-healed, takes 12 - 1 = 11 Cold damage.

Third and final laser! 80% base, -45% from range = 35%, which also also misses.

x = -5.56
y = 3.65
z = 3.28

It hits a block of stone and doesn't even crack it.

Having been reduced to less than half HP, the Stomp Bot, despite being an automata with no concept of survival instinct, somehow starts to work better. It now gets an extra character in its input stream! It celebrates by adding A, C, and A to its input stream.

Regen happens for peoples, and you realize you can't hear Winter anymore, and are just left with your anonymous (yet handsome) narrator to drive the story.

Finally, the sky turns a lovely shade of brown and red.

I decide that I'd honestly rather not get brutalized by stompbot, and grapple hook 12 blocks north and 16 blocks West, pulling myself to the blocks over there. I hop down on the south side of that block I grappled onto,putting me on grass. I hop down one block south, then hop down another block south. This puts me in the same location as Lawrence. I wave hi to him and say something in French that OOC me doesn't understand due to being a monolingual plebian.

Hey! Early part update because getting to Helldiver's action before the turn actually finishes opens up more options for people and doesn't have any 'mechanical' effects.

Lawrence puts down some dirt to bridge over to the cage. Once he's over there, he headbutts the button as hard as he can, so hard in fact, that it counts as getting attacked.

100% base, -65% from reflex = 35% hit chance, which hits with a 29. It has a 400% crit chance, so the wall gets a HEROIC STRIKE on your face! In the moments before you head collides with the wall, you notice the exquisite woodwork and fine textured stone, and you think of all the trials and tribulations this wall has gone through, such as being crafted in a far away place. The wall channels these memories into its attack, fighting for what it believes in, and this force of righteousness deals 1 physical damage to your face! Anyway, the door also swings open, as the button is weighed down currently.

You're a little busy with your face against the button, so you barely notice as something darts out of the cage and moves 8 blocks west. It crouches against the wall, eying you with suspicion and fear.

I... ... I hear the fighting... and... Winter. ... ... Who... are you? ... Are you okay?

(Talking is a free action, same as in all the games)

(Also, I'm thinking of saying that characters smaller than 1 cubic meter can share their space with one other character. Why is this not in the rules already? Because I didn't think we'd have characters smaller than 1 cubic meter, but there's no real reason why we can't.)

I was thinking of having Wilson just tackle whoever opens the door, but he's already had his time in the limelight. I also thought about trying to make this into some kind of April Fools joke, but couldn't think of a good joke.

Pilot Lawrence: I'm Pilot Lawrence. freelance Titan Pilot. I don't know where winter went, but he, she, they? whatever, they were fighting some glitch thing and we don't actually know where they went. as for how I am, I think the button took out my eye, but other than the mild pain from that I'm fine. who are you?

during this I put away the sword, look inside the chamber the thing came out of before then turning to face the whatever the thing is

Pilot Lawrence: also there's a giant killer robot up above but my buddies have it tied up rather well I think.

Ozrozius moves W 1 time and SW 2 times. He once again shoots the Stomp Bot.

Norbert moves SE+Up 4 times and Up 3 times, and uses Pointy Little Teeth. He then uses Rush to move E+Down 2 times and E 2 times.

Starting update...

There is a horrible grinding noise coming from below you, and everybody looks down to see... nothing different. Although, orthographic cameras have picked up a new grid to make counting spaces easier. It's not going to save you if you fall, though.

Windowmaker sees the writing on the wall, or rather the massive robot in the sky, and hookshoots out of there. Technically, I didn't intend for somebody to be able to move after using a hookshot, but if I want it to be a more movement oriented spell, then that's only natural. It's a range of 20.4 blocks, so 60% base, +10% from range, *1.3 from dex, *1.65 from spell = 150.15% hit chance. So you hit the block, and technically you deal 15 * .25 * .5 = 1 terrain damage to it, but that's not even enough to crack dirt. Due to how the turns worked, Lawrence isn't there anymore, so you wave to the little lemur like creature instead, who jumps back away from your presence.

C'est étrange que l'hiver vient d'être terminé. Français français. C'est presque comme si l'histoire était faite sur place.

The creature looks at you with fear, but also a hint of confusion.

Joe decides to not-hunker in the not-bunker below the stairs.

Paydaar moves down besides that old dirt barrier and overwatches. I'm not sure this was a good move... You'll see why later.

Helldiver's first post has already been accounted for, but not his second. The creature nervously backs away from Widowmaker and responds in studdering speech.

W- Winter was... was here? ... Ah... No... This is my fa- ...

The creature stops to take a breath before finally telling you its name.

... Gail. ... M- my name. ... Winter was with you... right? ... ... I doubt... I... I can do much.

Gail turns to the side and traces out a box shape with her paw, spawning a block of sponge. She has a hitbox, so she must be able to interact with the world.

I... ah...

She then jumps ontop of it and climbs up out of the pit before running behind the wooden building. Once there, she kneels down and opens some kind of screen in the air then starts panickly jabbing at virtual buttons.

It seems you hit the button so hard, it's now jammed, so the door is staying open even without you holding it. So taking advantage of this, you peek aroudn the corner. Inside the cage, you see a spell book and two small coin shaped objects. Curious, you pick them up.

New Spell! Class Access: 20 EP -- Computational Utility
Use on an ally within melee range. This spell then becomes a copy of one of the ally's spells, using your stats. It acts the same as though you had selected that spell during character creation. This cannot copy memory spells. At any time, you can choose to reset this spell back to being Class Access.

New Items! 2 Balance Tokens!
At the end of this battle, but before the next one starts, pick one (non-memory) spell, weapon, or equipment piece that was never used during the battle. The chosen item will then get a statistical buff without changing the core idea behind the item. Unless, of course, I don't think it's reasonable to buff said item. These each buff one item, and cannot buff the same item twice. The idea behind these is to make some cool, but underpowered option viable for the next fight and to encourage variety.

Alright then. There are other people in this battle. Orth(ographic) moves and shoots at the Stomp Bot at a range of 17.3 meters.

60% base, +15% from charge, *1.25 from dex = 93.75% hit chance, which hits with a roll of 85 and mini-crits! So, it ends up dealing 11 base, +1 from dex, +6 from charge = 18 damage. You guys are almost there. Oh, the crit restores 4 EP to you, Mei, Norbert, and Chloe.

Norbert flies up into the tempest and slashes at the Stomp Bot, which is an automatic hit, but not a crit. It deals 9 base, -2 from AC, *1.2 from weakness = 8 damage. Norbert then spends almost all his EP to get back to viable ground. However, he still ends his turn 4 blocks above the ground, and so falls to the ground, taking 4 damage.

Chloe uses her memory spell to trigger a massive surge of life! Orothec is healed for 9, Mei is healed for 8 (though it doesn't matter), the Annoying Modeler is healed for 6, and Windowmaker gets healed for 8. Chloe can't take cover behind the turret because A) can't move after an action, and B) the turret is embedded into the ground at her feet. Speaking of the turret, it randomly targets its master, Chloe, and gets a mini-crit heal for 9.

Okay. Stomp Bot time. It reads in an A, which means it transitions to state 5, even though it's already in state 5. So, it uses Meteor Crash. ... I'm sorry... but this hits Norbert for 21, killing him. ... Gail seems to noticably stumble when this happens.

The Stomp Bot then reads in a C, transitioning to state 4. So, it heads towards the player with the least HP.

"INITIATING SCAN. ... ... TARGET FOUND. LOCKED ON TO USER \"JOEBOB\"."

The Stomp Bot moves NE 3, Down + NE 1, allows itself to fall 3 blocks, then moves one more north east. Then, it prepares to kill Joe. But first...

"To the last, I grapple with thee! From Hell's heart, I stab at thee! For hate's sake, I spit my last breath at thee!"

Joe's overwatch triggers.

70% base, -40% from Death's Door, +15% from dex, +15% from enemy reflex, *0.8 from overwatch = 36%. ... Rolling... 68, 35, 4. Two hits and a miss.

Now, because I like the scene I've come up with in my head, I'm going to say that the Stomp Bot rotated its shield once it started to move, which means shield B now resists Shadow. And I'm also going to say that you overwatched with the Blade of Duality, and used it to deal Light damage, which the Stomp Bot is now weak to.

First hit deals 7 base, -2 from AC, *0.6 from Death's Door, *1.2 from weakness = 3 damage. The second attack doesn't get a crit either, except...

S-Stop! J- I- ... take it!

Gail interrupts the roll, using one of her abilities, "Minor Miracle" AKA: Seed. This allows any one random event to be rerolled, including the roll for a crit. And on this roll, it crits. And I don't mean a mini-crit. I mean it actually critted.

8 base, *0.6 from Death's Door, *1.2 from weakness, *2 from crit = 11 damage. Then the Stomp Bot kils you.

The Stomp Bot then reads in an A and transitions to state 6. But in a somewhat hilarious turn of events, it can't actually make it through the doorway. So instead, it moves up + SW 1, up 2, up + SW 1, west 4. It then shoots beams of... physical damage(?) at Paydaar. These aren't lasers. They're just rocks. First laser has an 80% hit chance, which hits with a roll of 17, dealing 10 base, +1 from AC = 11 damage.

The second laser has a 40% hit chance, and also hits, dealing 14 damage.

The final laser has a 0% hit chance, so goes immediately into scatter.

x = -4.10
y = 3.72
z = -3.80

This actually misses you and instead damages some planks next to you.

Regen happens for people who aren't dead. The Stomp Bot adds a B... then and A... then a D to its input stream. Huh. Statistically speaking, this isn't any more or less likely than any other outcome, but it is ironic. Our sky turns to what looks like an almost normal color!

Okay... OOC wrap up!

This update took longer than expected, partly because I couldn't get Gail to sit without breaking her legs. That's why she's kneeling. I also fiddled around with her model some more. Hopefully it looks good.

If Gail doesn't have to move this turn and doesn't take damage by the time the enemy turn rolls around, you can pick one symbol in the Stomp Bot's input stream and turn it into any other symbol. Although, you might kill it before the turn ends. If Gail's positioning seems odd, it's because in order to do this, the 3x3 area around here needs to be open to the air. This was the best place in her movement range for cover. And yes, Gail has five max HP.

Note to Joe:
Spoiler Alert

Because this isn't Chaos where there are multiple battles at any time, I'll do something else for the dead. When you're dead, you can command an NPC, which right now, assuming you don't want the thrilling job of controlling Chloe's turret, would be Gail. I won't give you all of Gail's stats (mainly because she's part of my GM toolbox in case I mess something up and make something too hard), but here are the relevant parts.

Gail has 10 movement, no EP, and three abilities. First, during this battle, if she doesn't move or take damage by the start of the enemy's turn, she can swap any one symbol in the Stomp Bot's input stream to any other symbol. She must have a 3x3 area open to the sky around her. Second, once per turn, she can interrupt an update to reroll any one random event. To use it, say something like "Gail overwatches for the first person to miss, and rerolls that miss". Finally, once per movement, she can spawn in up to 2 random blocks the same way you would place them. None of these abilities technically count as an action.

In addition, she is very agile, and can climb blocks like they all have ladders on them. She can also end her turn while climbing the side of a block. She can jump, has double jump, and can jump off of walls. Unlike most other NPCs, Gail does have a Death's Door with 30% Death Blow resist, and she can only get 1 stack of DD debuffs per attack.

Edit - Oh yeah, she also has access to the spell Bash, and it acts as though she had 16 AGI and 6 SPT. Costs no EP, but if she deals damage with it, she will be dazed on the next turn.

If you don't command Gail to do anything, I'll just take her turn instead.

I climb back up top using the block that was placed down, then move as many blocks towards the Western fortress as I can in one action. Then, I turn around and snipe the stomp bot. I WOULD'VE decided to grapple it off the edge just for the lulz, but that would've dealt less damage thanks to its booster jets.

I suggest gail builds two blocks to protect itself, then overwatches for the first person to hit, but not (mini)crit, on an attack with the ability to (mini)crit, and when that happens, redo the crit roll.
alternatively, if missing and criting is the same roll and i mixed something up(in my memory), then reroll the first miss that has a significant base damage (7+?)

Orothec shoots Stomp Bot again. If he doesn't have Line of Sight, he moves West 1 time and then shoots.

Chloe flings a fireball at the Stompbot. It might do something!
