Welcome to Legacy of Destruction (previously known as Pionoquest, a name that I'm working on phasing out as it doesn't really... fit.), A fake tv show that I'm writing up. It follows the adventures of Piono as he tries to cope with being prophesied to end the world.
How I do these is; I write up an episode. Once an episode is written up, I "premiere" it in a handful of Discord servers, one of which being the #DTG discord server that is advertised in the location directory. Once the premiere is finished, I work on converting the formatting to BBCode, and once that's done, post it here. Then, three days after it gets posted here, I upload it to Archive Of Our Own. Below are a list of the seasons and episodes, as well as links to the episodes once they're posted here. The AO3 link is right here. Piono begins his grand quest to ascension, learning of the prophecy wherein he is proclaimed to end the world. A view of a world, mostly green and blue, much like Earth. (voice over): Telenoth. A beautiful world, with many pleasant people on it. (voice over): Not a bad place to live. (voice over): At least, not in my experience. (voice over): Even if most of my experience is just with the one kingdom of Edinta The camera zooms down as the planet turns and night falls. (voice over): It has its ups and downs. (voice over): But I think that’s true no matter where you live. (voice over): If you were to ask me if I wanted to destroy it… (voice over): chuckles darkly The camera finishes zooming down, showing a nighttime view of a burning farm, with a silhouette looking at it, jacket fluttering in the wind. (voice over): Well, I would have, and still will tell you no every time. The figure turns away from the farm and begins walking down the hill, faintly glowing runemarks can be seen on his exposed skin. (voice over): Except… (voice over): That’s what I’m supposed to do apparently. The figure looks up at the camera, his eyes are a mix of glowing red and orange, almost exactly matching with the glow of the burning farm behind him. (voice over): My name is Piono, and I’m prophesied to end the world. Intense music begins playing over a black screen, lyrics in a language that sounds vaguely like Japanese, but even those of you who speak Japanese can’t make out any words. A silhouetted figure of Piono walking along a ridge with his jacket billowing in the wind. A number of different fight scene cuts begin flashing in and out as the music begins to swell and the lyrics grow more intense, most of them starring Piono. Scenes alternate of Piono walking between different locations, then switch to him looking over a mountain down at a ruined city as the music begins to fade out, showing a large title: Legacy of Destruction As the title fades out, it shows a view of the farm earlier in the day, still fully intact. Piono (voice over): But let’s look back, to the beginning of the day. Piono (voice over): Before everything went sour. A number of people are working on the farm, relaxed village-y music is playing Piono (voice over): It was a normal day, for the most part. The camera pans over the farm, people doing farm things, tending to crops and animals. Piono (voice over): Summer had just begun to settle in. Piono (voice over): Crops needed to be watered, animals needed to be fed. Piono (voice over): The weather had been good for several months, and the Summer crops were looking like they’d come up in a very bountiful harvest. The camera finds Piono, who is in the loft of a barn, dressed in farmer’s garb, tossing a bale of hay down into a cart down below. Piono (voice over): Everyone was busy, life was good. A guy in work clothes pushes the hay bale into place on the cart and waves up at Piono. Piono (voice over): It was a nice change of pace from the first few years I’d owned the farm. Piono (voice over): Everything was looking up. Piono leans out the window in the loft, swinging up over them and closing them with his momentum, before dropping to the ground below with a thud. Piono: Alright Teddy, we good? The person who loaded the cart, Teddy, nods and hops over the front into the driver’s seat Teddy: Yep, back to the stables it is. Piono comes around and hops up into the seat next to Teddy with one smooth motion. Teddy: I’m never going to get used to your acrobatics. Piono: You’re gonna have to, I don’t plan to stop any time soon. Teddy chuckles, and jolts the reigns, sending the horses forward into a canter. Piono: You mind if I get off when we pass the house? I haven’t had anything to eat since this morning. Teddy: Yeah sure, I can handle feeding time on my own. Piono: Thanks. The two ride the cart at a somewhat leisurely pace through the farm towards a large farmhouse. People wave and shout greetings, and Piono leans back, looking pleased. Teddy: You seem pretty happy. Piono looks over at the people working on the farm, then back at Teddy. Piono: Things are actually going well for once, of course I’m happy. Piono: I’m actually doing something with my life to build people up, not break them down. Teddy nods Teddy: Guess it’s a nice change of pace from being in the army. Piono: Yeah. Teddy contemplates something Teddy: I have to be honest, if I had the same knack for combat and warfare you’re known for, I probably wouldn’t have retired. Piono: That’s fair, but you’re not me. I got tired of all the fighting, I’d rather be good at… well just about anything other than fighting, but oh well. Teddy nods again, goading the horses forward again a little bit. Teddy: Still, you can’t complain too much. You’re sitting on a pretty fortune now. Piono chuckles and leans forward. Piono: That I am… That I am… The cart pulls up in front of the farmhouse. Teddy: Alright, I think this is your stop. Piono pushes up and hops off the cart. Piono: Thank you kindly. Teddy gives a light “hya!” to the horses which pull the cart forward and away, as Piono turns to face the farmhouse and walks towards it. A number of women are washing laundry nearby and they wave cheerfully. One of the younger women, with blond hair and a blue dress puts down some of the washing, and saunters over to Piono. Piono: Hey there Celise. Is lunch ready yet? Celise smiles wryly. Celise: You missed it by an hour. I could fix you something though. Piono: An hour? It’s been that long already? Celise: It has. You’ve been out working for a long time. Celise takes Piono’s hand and starts leading him inside. Celise: Come on, let’s get some food in you. Piono: Even if I were inclined to say no you probably wouldn’t let me. Late lunch it is. Celise smiles. Celise: You know me so well. Switch scenes, Piono and Celise are inside the kitchen, Piono sat down at the table, taking a drink, Celise is humming a tune. Celise walks over and places a platter with a bowl of soup, some bread, some cheese and some fruits and vegetables in front of Piono. Celise: Here you go. Piono reaches up and hugs her with one arm, she hugs back. Piono: Thanks Celise, you’re the best. Celise: I know. Celise positions her dress and sits down across the table from Piono. Celise: So… Piono looks up at her over his food. Celise leans over on the table. Celise: I’ve always wondered about your eyes… Celise: They’re so striking. Piono looks back down and mutters darkly. Piono: I suppose that’s one way to look at it. Celise: Oh come on, don’t be like that. Piono sighs and sits up properly. Celise: So… how did you get them? Piono: Hmm… I guess I’ve never told any of you about my past really… have I? Celise shakes her head, and Piono sets the spoon he’s holding down. Piono: Well… Ripple dissolve to a backstory. Piono (voice over): I don’t know exactly where I come from, or how I got to Edinta, in all honesty. A view of a misty forest. Celise (voice over): Really? What do you remember? Piono (voice over): Not much. After I woke up in the hospice, they told me they’d found me in the Grey Forest in a large crater a few hours after a pillar of light had shone from the sky and sent out a deafening crack across the surrounding area. Pan down to show that the tree line subsides suddenly into a shallow, but wide crater. At the center of it is Piono, unconscious, wearing battle damaged armor, it’s smoking somewhat melted and just in bad shape in general. A few soldiers in blue are picking their way down towards him. Piono (voice over): They were unsure where this strange looking warrior had come from. One of the soldiers gets close and looks curiously at the rune marks on Piono’s face. Piono (voice over): And were even more uncertain when they saw the markings on my body. Celise (voice over): So you don’t know where the markings on your skin came from? The soldiers debate, and eventually decide to pick him up and take him back home. Piono (voice over): No, not in the slightest. Celise (voice over): I’m guessing the same with your eyes huh… Piono (voice over): No, afraid not. Celise (voice over): So what happened from there? Fade to white, fade back in with Piono in a bed in an infirmary. Piono (voice over): The beginnings of my memory are in the imperial hospice in the capital, Austice Piono’s eyes flicker open, and he sits bolt upright in bed. One of the nurses looks at Piono and screams. Piono (voice over): And my eyes scaring one of the nurses. Pictures fade in and out, Piono meeting with a number of different people in different circumstances, but always heavily guarded. The master of the infirmary, a general, a member of clergy, the king... Piono (voice over): The next few days were… stressful. Piono (voice over): They weren’t certain whether I was some sort of demon or just a lost soul from another world. Scene switch to Piono practicing with a wooden sword in a courtyard, going through a number of sword positions with extreme speed. Piono (voice over): They were deliberating over what to do with me, so I did the only thing I could find. Piono (voice over): Practicing with the weapons seemed natural to me. Pan around the camera to show a figure in a bold blue coat with golden trim, wearing a rather plain crown. Piono (voice over): Charles, the eldest prince, saw me practicing in the courtyard. The prince takes off his coat and crown grabs another practice sword, and walks over towards Piono, who looks at him confusedly. Piono (voice over): He took an interest in my skills and challenged me to a practice match. The prince levels his sword, then dives towards Piono. Piono steps back and catches the sword on his, then twists it around and pushes Charles back. Celise (voice over): Isn’t Prince Charles a master swordsman? Piono and Charles clash several times at high speed. Piono (voice over): He wasn’t yet by that point in time, Charles pushes Piono back, going on the offensive with a flurry of strikes. Piono (voice over): But he was more than skilled enough. Piono retaliates, suddenly becoming a blur of strikes. Piono (voice over): For most fights anyways. Charles begins sweating with exertion as Piono pushes him back across the courtyard, the two have accumulated a small crowd. Celise (voice over): You aren’t most fights though. Piono spins around behind Charles, who quickly turns and barely blocks the strike, which comes close to pushing the sword out of his hands. Piono (voice over): You’re right, I’m not. Piono twists his sword around, sending Charles’ weapon spinning across the courtyard. Charles blinks in surprise, then grins. Piono (voice over): I disarmed him handily. Charles wraps an arm around Piono’s shoulders and the two walk towards the edge of the courtyard. Piono (voice over): He said he could guarantee my safety, and a job as well. The scene switches again, showing Piono waiting on judgement, with Charles vouching for him in front of the King and his advisors. Piono (voice over): And he did. As one of the kingdom’s battlefield champions. Ripple dissolve back into the kitchen. Piono: And you know the rest, I went on to help win the war against Lancre, saved the royal family during the siege of Austice, and bought the farm here to help Eugene get his family back on its feet. Celise: Where’d you meet Eugene? Piono: Ah, he was a friend I made in one of the warcamps. We wound up crossing paths fairly frequently, and he actually saved my life once. Celise: That’s funny, he never stops talking about all the times you’ve saved his. Piono shrugs. Piono: The important thing is that it was the start of a good friendship. Celise nods. Celise: Thank you for being so open. Piono: You’re welcome. May I eat now? Celise giggles. Celise: Yes, you may. Piono smiles, and goes back to eating. Celise: Well, I think I’ll head back out and- The door opens and another farmer, middle aged with a bit of a goatee comes in, he looks a bit out of breath. Piono looks up from his food. Celise: Is everything okay Eugene? Piono: Is something wrong? Eugene pants and shakes his head, stopping to catch his breath. Eugene: huff, huff no… just… Piono and Celise look at each other. Eugene: Visitors. Piono: ...what kind of visitors? Eugene finally straightens up. Eugene: It’s… huff the Oracle of Karen Lake. Piono raises an eyebrow, Celise gasps. Celise: What for? Eugene shakes his head. Eugene: They didn’t say, just said that the oracle wanted to talk with Piono, and spend the night. Piono frowns. Piono: Hmm… we weren’t expecting visitors. Piono: How large is the entourage? Eugene: About twenty retainers and guards, plus the Oracle herself. Piono: Alright, we can probably feed that many. Eugene: We’ll have to buy more food from the market if they stay for more than a day or two though. Piono nods. Piono: Alright. Let’s just be ready for that eventuality. Piono stands up. Piono: I’ll go get dressed. Celise: But you haven’t finished- Piono: This is more important, I can eat later. Celise opens her mouth to protest but Eugene sets a hand on her shoulder. Eugene: It’s alright Celise, he’ll be fine. He knows how to take care of himself. Celise looks at Eugene, then sighs. Celise: Alright. Piono: I’ll be back downstairs in a few minutes, don’t wait up. Piono goes through the door further into the house, turns a corner and goes up some stairs. Celise looks at Eugene. Celise: I thought he said his relocation was kept a secret. Eugene: Well… tongues wag, and the king knows too… Eugene frowns. Eugene: You’re right though… I do wonder… Piono is in his room, this is the obligatory shirtless fanservice scene. I will not describe in detail because that would bore people, but there are a few things to note. First off, he has no wounds except for a large black scar on his left side right under his ribcage, Second of all, the runes that are on his face and arms criss cross and spiral around his chest and back as well. Piono looks in the mirror and sighs, turning and leaning down, reaching under the bed to pull out a large chest. Piono: Never thought I’d be pulling this out again. Piono reaches in and shrugs into a crisp white officer’s shirt and then pulls out a sword in a scabbard. He fastens the scabbard around his waist, and pulls the sword out of the scabbard: it has a crow marked on the hilt and the base of the blade, and shines with a strong sheen. Piono goes through a few sword forms, swinging the sword around in tight patterns, before holding the blade vertical in front of him, then doing a formal bow and resheathing the sword. Piono: Alright I gotta stop fooling around. Piono reaches into the chest and pulls out a blue jacket with gold trim, very reminiscent of the one Charles was wearing in the flashback. Piono stares at it for a bit, then sighs and swings it around behind himself and slides his arms into the sleeves, pulling it over his shoulders. Piono turns and looks into the mirror. Piono: Come on, you can do this. It’s only been… 5 years… Piono sighs again, and stands up. Piono: Here we go. Cut to the front of the farmhouse, where a number of the people are gathered, watching as a large white carriage with a large escort pulls up in front of the house. Piono comes out the front door of the house, his fancier clothing earning him some odd looks from the others from the farm, and he approaches the carriage as the various riders begin dismounting from their horses. Piono steps to the front of the small crowd of gawking farmers and waits out in front of them as the door to the carriage is opened by a retainer. A serene, but rather short woman with pale silvery hair coming down over her shoulder in a long braid and a hood pulled up over her face steps out of the carriage, helped down by the retainer. Piono gives a formal bow. Piono: Oracle. The Oracle gives a small curtsy. Oracle: Champion. Piono straightens up and raises an eyebrow. Piono: That’s an odd title to choose. Oracle: It merely seemed appropriate. Piono: Very well. What brings you to my humble abode? Oracle: There is news to be brought to you. Piono nods. Piono: I assume you’ll be needing food and places to rest. I’ll arrange for a dinner for everyone, and find space for your entourage, I’ll have Celise show you to the library, where you can wait until arrangements have been made. The oracle nods. Oracle: Thank you. I will need to keep my retainer, Alph, with me. Piono: Ah… I thought the blind oracle was symbolism? Oracle: For most. I fell prey to a crippling disease in my childhood that left me with a number of scars, among those being the loss of my eyesight. Piono: My apologies. The Oracle waves a dismissive hand. Oracle: It is fine, I have long since learned to deal with my disability, and I share a bond with Alph that allows me to see through his eyes. Piono bows again. Piono: Very well. He turns back and looks at Celise. Piono: Would you mind escorting the Oracle to the library? Celise bobs her head and moves forward, giving a greeting to the oracle and showing her inside as the scene shifts focus to Eugene moving towards Piono. Eugene: This is worrying. Piono: It is. Any idea what news she might have? Eugene shakes his head. Eugene: I’ll get everything taken care of out here, you go talk with the Oracle. Piono: Thank you. Piono walks towards the front of the farmhouse, and Eugene gives one last nervous glance in his direction before starting to give instructions to the others. Scene cut to inside the library. It’s not a large room, and there aren’t more than one or two bookshelves worth of books. But there’s a number of chairs and a desk. The Oracle is seated in one of the chairs, while her retainer browses the bookshelves. Piono quietly walks in and closes the door behind him. Oracle: That was rather quick. Piono: I can rely on the others to get work done once things have been set in motion. Piono idly picks up a book and fiddles with it. Piono: This farm survived for a number of years before I bought it, and it can survive without me again now. The Oracle nods. Oracle: You have a number of classics here. I did not expect a military man to be so well read. Piono shakes his head and puts the book back down. Piono: It’s not my collection. Eugene is the real master of the farm, I just hold the deed until he needs it back. Oracle: Then what about you? You speak well enough. Piono: Just because I don’t own the books doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy reading them. The Oracle nods. Oracle: It is good to read about the world and stories of others. It gives perspective. Piono sighs. Piono: Is there a point to all this? Oracle: To see what kind of person you are. Heroes are not always all they are said to be. Piono: That’s true. Oracle: Tell me Piono, what do you know of current world affairs? Piono sits in a chair opposite the oracle. Piono: Not much. I requested I be left off the reserve list, and haven’t gone out of my way to obtain news. Oracle: Then I suppose we will start this discussion with some recent events. Piono sighs and rests his head on one hand. Oracle: Terris has become expansionist again and has absorbed Yintris, Perilwin and the Republic of Fulris in the past two years. Piono: Concerning, but if I was really needed, the king knows where I am. Oracle: That may prove more difficult, as Lancre has been sending in men to act as bandits, waylaying travelers and messengers. Piono’s brow furrows, and he begins tapping his fingers on the chair. Oracle: That, however, is not Edinta’s greatest worry. Oracle: A man calling himself General Gamm has appeared, amassing an army from seemingly nowhere and has challenged the royal family for control of the kingdom. Oracle: He already controls the entire Southern district, and there are rumors that the king is worried he won’t be able to amass a large enough army in time. Oracle: Edinta is caught between a rock and several hard places. Piono: Why are you telling me this? The oracle raises an eyebrow. Oracle: What do you mean? Piono: Aren’t oracles supposed to be neutral parties, not beholden to or allied with any political forces? Oracle: Indeed we are, but there are… certain exceptions. Piono: Such as? Oracle: A prophecy has been issued. With you as the central object of it. Piono looks straight at the oracle, his fingers stop tapping. Piono: What… what kind of prophecy… Retainer: The apocalyptic kind. Oracle: Alph! Alph: I’m sorry Avis, but you need to not dance around something like this. The oracle sighs, Piono sits there, knuckles white as he grips the chair. Oracle: Approximately six months ago, nearly half of the oracles who presently possess Sight of any kind gave variations on the same prophecy. The oracle folds her hands in her lap. Oracle: Many different objects are named, circumstances, events, but one theme is consistent among them, you are named or described in all of them. The oracle leans forward. Oracle: And in every single one you are named as the destroyer of the entire world. Piono shakes his head slowly, painfully. Piono: That… that can’t be right, I… I would never… Oracle: Were the prophecy issued just be a single oracle, I would perhaps believe you, but a council of the oracles has been called, for the first time in nearly three hundred years. Piono: How can this… I thought prophecies were supposed to be just… one thing, destined to happen? The oracle shakes her head. Oracle: While some would like you to think that, that is not true. Prophecies are more like… a set of conditions. If one thing happens, then another will. Prophecies can be subverted, although rarely with ease. Piono: Then what about this one? Surely- The oracle cuts him off. Oracle: With a singular prophecy given so much power and so many permutations, the only sure way to end the prophecy would be with your death, maybe not even then. Piono sinks into his chair. Piono: So what now, you kill me? Oracle: No. I was sent by the council to bring you to the gathering of the oracles, so that we can see the center of the prophecy as a group, and then decide what to do to avert the end of the world. Oracle: I will not force you to come, but be very wary. News of this prophecy has already spread far and wide, your life will not be easy without the protection of the oracles. Piono shakily stands to his feet. Piono: I… Oracle: I know it is a lot to take in, I will give you time to think it over. The oracle stands up and holds out a hand, the retainer walks over and takes it, leading the oracle out of the room. Piono slumps back into the chair. After a little while, Celise opens the door again. Celise: Is everything okay? Piono slowly shakes his head. Piono: ...no. Piono: I think… I think I’m going to have to leave soon. Celise stares at him. Celise: What did she tell you? Piono: A lot of things. Apparently things aren’t going too well in the outside world. They need me again. Celise: I thought you were retired. Piono: I guess I’m unretired now. Piono slowly stands up. Celise: But… Piono: No buts Celise. There’s nothing we can do. Piono slowly walks past Celise. Piono: We have to take the hand we’re dealt and do our best to survive with the cards we are given. Celise turns and watches Piono walk through the rooms towards the front door. The scene switches again, showing the sun beginning to set. A number of tables and logs are set up to sit on outside the farmhouse. The various farmers and retainers of the oracle are eating outside. Eugene is eating his dinner, when Piono walks up to him. Eugene looks up at Piono. Eugene: Hey why the long face? Oracle didn’t prophecy your death or anything did she? Piono: She might as well have. Eugene blinks and slowly puts down his plate next to him. Eugene: Are you… are you gonna be okay? Piono looks to the side. Piono: I don’t know, I think I’m going to be leaving soon. I’ll leave you the credit notes so that if anything comes up before harvest time you guys can handle yourselves. Eugene nods slowly. Eugene: You know you gotta say a proper goodbye to Celise first though, right? Piono: Not going to leave tonight, at least, so long as I don’t have to. Eugene stands up and pats Piono on the shoulder. Eugene: We’ll be fine. Do you need anything else? Piono: Yeah, did you get everyone properly settled in? Eugene: The other families and houses scattered about are willing to take in the entourage that won’t fit here. The oracle and her retainer insisted on sleeping in the farmhouse proper, but other than that everything’s gone smoothly. Piono nods, then hugs Eugene. Piono: Thank you Eugene. Eugene hugs back then releases. Eugene: Take care of yourself, friend. Piono: I’ll try. Piono waves as he walks away. Piono walks through the small crowd of people, lost in thought, not returning the greetings of the people who wave or say hello to him. Piono approaches the oracle, who is sitting next to her retainer, but other than that mostly alone. Alph notices Piono and the oracle turns to face him. Oracle: Ah, Piono. Have you made a decision yet? Piono: Not yet. Oracle: That is understandable, but I’ll need you to make up your mind soon. Piono: It’s… hard. Part of me just wants to cut and run. Piono sits down on the log a little ways away from the Oracle. Piono: People say I’m a good man, but sometimes it’s hard to see that. Oracle: Oh? Piono: Surviving. That’s what I’m good at. Piono leans his head back. Piono: Are you afraid of dying? I am. I don’t know where I came from, I don’t know where I’m going, and I honestly don’t want to find out just yet. Oracle: What would you put at risk for your own survival? Piono: I… don’t know. That’s a hard question, but it looks like I’ll probably be finding it out soon, won’t I? The oracle nods. Oracle: It is the hardest times and greatest challenges that separate the good men from the bad, the strong from the weak, and the great from the lesser. Piono leans forward, nodding. Piono: I… don’t know what I’ll do yet. But I guess we’ll find out soon enough. Piono stands up. Piono: I hope you enjoy your meal, I need some time alone to think. Oracle: Thank you. Piono walks away. Alph watches him walk away and scoots over closer to the oracle. Alph: Now that is an interesting man. A shame really. Oracle: Indeed. Nobody deserves to have this much weight on their shoulders. The oracle leans on Alph, who leans his head against hers. Oracle: Alph… do you think everything will be okay? Alph: I… I don’t know. Normally I would ask you but… Oracle: Yes… the future is both the most uncertain it's ever been, and as scarily certain as it could possibly be. Alph: We’ll find a way through this. We have to. Oracle: For everyone’s sake. Continued here. Originally posted on 2018-07-03 00:46:00 -------------------- Once upon a time there was a story...

The camera pans up and gives a view of the sun as a time lapse is done and the sun sinks below the horizon, stars twinkling in the sky, as the lights in the farmhouse go out one by one. The camera cuts to Piono, lying in bed, eyes wide open. Piono (thoughts): What am I going to do… The door begins to creak open, and Piono closes his eyes. There is near total silence as three shadowy figures enter the room. Piono (thoughts): ...that’s not Celise or Eugene… The figures surround Piono’s bed, and each of them pulls out a dagger with a pitch black blade. One of them raises his dagger and thrusts it down. Piono pushes himself out of bed, slamming into the figure opposite the one thrusting his blade down. The first figure pulls his blade out of the mattress, the hole where it went in now scorched black and smoking, while the third figure moves after Piono, who springs up onto his feet, leaving the second figure on the ground. The third figure thrusts their knife at Piono, who twists around it and slams his elbow into the side of their head, knocking them sideways. Piono ducks backwards past the window as the first figure throws their knife, sending it crashing through the glass. The second figure has gotten up and lunges at Piono as well, who steps behind their thrust, and pulls the mirror on his table down on top of their head, sending them to the floor with a thud and a crash. The first figure has pulled out several more knives, and begins throwing them at Piono who ducks down, then drops to the floor as the third figure sweeps his legs out from under him. Piono rolls under the bed a little bit, right next to the chest, and out of the way of another stab from the third figure. The third figure leans down to try and stab at Piono, only to get kicked in the face. The second figure is climbing out from under the table mirror, and the first figure is walking around the front of the bed. Piono pulls himself further up under the bed, then pushes up at it heaving it upwards. The bed tilts upward and Piono kicks it, toppling it up and over sending it crashing down on top of the first and third figures. The second figure has an open shot at Piono and lunges at him again, but Piono rolls under him, crashing through his legs and knocking the figure to the ground. The figure whirls around and lunges to their feet, chasing after Piono again, swiping at Piono several times who dodges out of the way. The figure lunges at Piono again, who sidesteps out of the path of the lunge, and then grabs ahold of the figure by their cloak, and swings them around, sending them crashing out the window. Piono runs over to the chest and and flips open the lid, and then twists around as a knife flies at him and embeds itself in the lid of the chest. Piono turns around, one of the two figures has climbed out from under the tossed bed and is readying another knife to throw. Piono reaches into his chest and throws a knife of his own back at the figure, who steps to the side and flings another knife. Piono ducks under it, and then springs back to his feet, this time with his sword in his hand, taken from the chest. The figure throws several more knives, which Piono dodges, and by then Piono has closed the gap between the two, engaging in close quarters combat. Piono swings at the figure, who blocks and dodges the swings a number of times, but is still being pushed back. Finally the figure’s back is pressed up against the wall, and Piono attempts to drive his sword home, but the figure slides sideways a bit, moving out of the way. The figure counterattacks, trying to drive their knife into Piono’s arm. Piono pulls away, leaving his sword stuck in the wall, but he grabs ahold of the figure’s arm and twists it around, pulling the figure up close, holding the arm behind his head, twisting the knife out of his hand and holding it to the figure’s neck. Piono: Now you’re going to tell me why you’re here, or I’m going to slit your throat. And I think we both know how much that would hurt with this knife. The figure makes some choking sounds. Behind Piono, the other figure has climbed out from under the bed, and readies a knife. Piono’s eyes flicker to the side, and he whirls around, holding the other figure in front of them, causing them to get hit in the chest with the knife. Piono drops the figure he’s holding, who falls to the floor and flails on the ground. Piono pulls his sword out of the wall and dodges to the side as the remaining figure throws more knives at him. Piono quickly closes the distance with his sword and brings it around in a wide sideways arc. The figure ducks under the swing, only for Piono to knee him in the face, sending him toppling backwards onto the flipped bed. The door to the bedroom suddenly slams open, Celise is in the doorway, she stops and stares. The figure tries to take advantage of Piono being distracted and pushes up off the bed and lunges at Piono, who ducks under their dive, and pushes them upwards, causing their trajectory to go upwards, slamming into the ceiling before they crash into the back wall. Piono: Celise! Go wake everyone, warn the oracle, we’re under attack! Celise: But… Piono: There’s at least three still alive, Cormoran assassins always work in groups of 5. Celise just sort of stares and blinks. The assassin staggers to his feet and turns to face Piono, readying another knife. Piono: Go! Piono dodges out of the way as the knife flies past him, embedding itself in the doorframe, causing the same spreading scorching and black smoke as the other stabbed surfaces. Celise jumps back and shrieks as it thuds in. Piono turns and runs for the assassin. Celise leaves the doorway and you can hear footsteps thudding down the stairs. The assassin lunges at Piono, who jumps back, and the two begin exchanging blows, Piono dodging and deflecting attacks, until he is able to knock the dagger from the assassin’s hand, the assassin watches the knife’s trajectory, which isn’t long, but it's enough for Piono to slam his sword into the assassin’s shoulder and pin him to the wall. Piono: Alright, I won’t ask this again. Why are you- Piono is interrupted as the assassin attempts to stab him with his uninjured arm. Piono pulls back out of the way of the strike, taking his sword with him and swinging again as the assassin tries to move towards him to strike again. The assassin stumbles back and slides down against the wall, dark blood leaking from the wound in his shoulder and the gash in his chest. Piono cleans off his sword on the assassin’s cloak, then moves over to his chest and pulls out a couple of other things, quickly putting on his coat, putting his scabbard at his side and taking out a set of throwing knives that he fastens inside his coat. By this point there is crashing and the sounds of people being woken up downstairs. Piono hops over the flipped bed into the hallway, and runs down the hallway, making a turn and going down the stairs into the common room of the house. Eugene and several of the other farmers are in the common room. Piono: Eugene, grab whatever you can and go out back with the others. The assassins aren’t here for you. Eugene nods and begins giving orders to the other farmerfolk, who begin moving to various rooms, several of them heading out back as they grab things from the common room, led out by Eugene. Celise runs into the room and Piono turns to face her. Celise: I can’t find the oracle! She’s not in her room! Piono: What? Then where is The entire room is suddenly filled with a violent fireball. Piono is launched violently through the walls of the house, surrounded by fire and light, slamming through the outer wall and rolling to a smoking stop in the grass outside. Camera pans around to a view of the farmhouse, which is collapsing in flame. Piono looks up from the ground, clothes smoldering and smoking, patches burned in them. He starts to push himself up, but struggles. There are footsteps, and two or three farmers, led by Eugene, run over to Piono. Eugene holds a hand out to Piono, who takes it and staggers to his feet. His wounds are already starting to heal, a little slowly, but still supernaturally fast. Eugene: Are you okay? Did anyone else get out? Piono: N...no… Celise… Eugene falls to his knees. Eugene: No one? Piono begins shaking. Piono: No… Eugene: Who… who would do this… Piono: I don’t… Piono blinks. Piono (whispering): the oracle… Eugene looks up at Piono. Eugene: ...what? Piono crouches down. Piono: Eugene, you need to take the others, get the money we stashed away, and find some place to hide. Eugene: what? Why? Piono: You asked about what the oracle had told me… well, it’s been prophesied that I’m going to end the world. Eugene stares at him. Eugene: but… Piono: I know, it doesn’t make sense, but it means that people are going to try and kill me by any means necessary to stop the prophecy. Eugene: But the oracle… Piono pulls Eugene to his feet. Piono: Just run. Run and don’t look back. Eugene stares at him with dead eyes. Piono looks over at the others, who are just as shellshocked. Piono begins to move away from them. Piono: Just… keep yourselves safe. It’s too dangerous for me to be close to you anymore. Piono runs off away from the group. Piono moves through the grass a little bit further away from the farmhouse, and then you can hear shouting. Piono looks around and sees a few members of the oracle’s entourage searching through the fields, accompanied by floating orbs of light. Entourage member: Keep searching, until we find a body, we can’t know he’s dead. Piono drops lower in grass. Piono: Wonderful. Piono continues moving along in the grass. quietly. Camera pans upwards, to a large circle of light a short distance away, where the oracle is standing with Alph’s hand on her shoulder and a couple of guards nearby. Alph scans the fields, and then notices the grass moving over where Piono is. The oracle turns and faces towards where the disturbance is and raises her hand. Piono scrambles backwards as a bolt of lightning hits the ground in front of him. Oracle and Alph: There. The orbs of light floating around move towards Piono, lighting up the area he’s in, and leading the handful of members of the entourage towards him. The oracle lifts her hand, and Piono dives towards the ground as a fireball flies over his head, he tucks into a roll and comes up to a standing position, ready to throw a knife, but one of the entourage is already between him and the oracle. Piono draws his sword as several members of the oracle’s entourage and guard surround him. Piono: Alright then. It’s time you all learned why I’m the most renowned champion in Edinta. Mook: Tough talk for a man who just got blasted through the wall of- The man goes down to the ground clutching at a knife in his throat. Piono: Anybody else want to make smart remarks? Piono flips a knife. Piono: Because the next person who tries to make light of what your oracle just did is getting this in their eye. The rest of the entourage remain silent and slowly begin to close in. Piono: That’s what I thought. Piono holds his sword in one hand, a knife in the other, doing a quick 360 to look around himself. One of the entourage shouts and jumps at him while Piono’s looking the other direction. Piono whirls around, catches the woman’s sword with his, leaning back so that she goes over him, then pushes her sideways so that she crashes into several others of the entourage. The entourage member who is now behind Piono charges at him as well, brandishing a small battleaxe. Piono backflips over him, throwing his knife down, and lands as the warrior slides across the ground with a knife embedded in his back. Piono is now outside of the ring of guards and entourage, facing them with his sword. Piono looks sideways then dives for the ground as a spray of ice shards pass over his head. Piono (thinking): So the oracle is still taking potshots at me, but doesn’t want to hit her entourage… lets see if I can use that. Piono springs to his feet and charges back into the middle of the entourage, taking them by surprise as he cuts down the first of their member, and begins doling out quick strikes at the others. Several members of the entourage fall to minor or major wounds in the initial attack, but several others start moving around to try and surround him again. Piono maneuvers around the various combatants to avoid getting cornered, his sword blurring between different weapons as he struggles to hold off the various strikes. Piono walks around the outer edge of the group, being pushed back further and further, until he’s being pushed back towards the Oracle. Piono dodges to the side of a downward cut with a battleaxe, and then rolls under a swipe from another fighter. Piono backpedals a bit, and one of the entourage members lunges after him, the two locking blades, pushing back and forth for a second or two while the other entourage members try to surround him. Piono knocks the entourage member he’s locked blades with backwards with a kick to the stomach and jumps backwards into the air, twisting around as he does, grabbing a knife and flinging it towards the oracle. The oracle raises her hand as he does that, and a shield forms around her and Alph, the knife hitting it and vaporizing with a flash of light. The oracle pushes her hand down, and Piono is pushed down by a gust of wind, slamming into the ground with a thud. Piono rolls out of the way of a lightning bolt and jumps back to his feet. Piono (thinking): How can she see me like that, isn’t she… Flashback to earlier in the day, talking with the oracle as she got out of the carriage. Oracle: -and I share a bond with Alph that allows me to see through his eyes. Jump back to Piono as he ducks and rolls through a barrage of fireballs and lightning bolts. Piono (thinking): Right, take out the spotter then. Piono dives past another lightning bolt, coming up into a standing position, then whirling around as a knife flies through the air towards him, barely missing him. Piono looks over, and a short distance away is a trio of the shadowy assassins much like the ones that attacked him in his room, two of them moving steadily through the field, the last limping. Piono holds his sword at the ready, and the camera pans around him in a circle, showing the three groups facing him, the 5 entourage members who attacked him before, the oracle and Alph and the four guards sticking with them, and the three assassins. Piono charges towards the Oracle, weaving around a lightning bolt and then rolling under another scatter shot of ice shards, springing up and slamming into one of the guards around the oracle, knocking them to the ground. Piono jumps out of the way of another blast of ice shards, and catches the blade of the next guard to come after him on his sword. Piono and the guard spin around each other a few more times as the other two guards close in, only for Piono to knock the sword of the guard he’s dueling with to the side and stick a knife in the side of his neck. The oracle raises her arm for another fireball but Piono’s hand flicks out and a knife slams into her hand. She shrieks in pain, going down to her knees as Alph whirls to face her and goes down on his knees as well, grabbing a hold of her. Piono turns to face the other two guards, who attempt to gang up on him. Piono slides under their sword swings, grabs one of them by the collar and swings him around into the other, knocking them both over. The oracle lifts her hand up again shakily, guided by Alph, aiming at Piono. Piono spins around and dives forward. Alph moves to try and jump in front of the oracle, causing Piono’s initial strike at him to miss its mark. Piono runs Alph right through the stomach. The oracle lets out a pained choking, grasping at her stomach, as if expecting to find a sword wound there in her own torso, only to have Alph topple over into her lap. Piono pulls his sword out of Alph’s torso and rounds on the two guards who have stood back up, and the rest of the entourage that have caught up with him, although they are starting to look less sure of themselves. Piono brings up his sword again, and then looks sideways and dodges as another knife flies past, two of the assassins stepping into the melee as the entourage members move forward to try and surround Piono again. While the fight picks up in the background, the camera changes field of view, focusing on the oracle and Alph. The oracle is clutching Alph and rocking back and forth, crying. Oracle: Don’t die, please don’t die. Alph coughs up a bit of blood and smiles up weakly at her. Alph: It’s gonna be okay... Oracle: No it’s not! What am I supposed to do without you?! Alph tries to sit up but coughs up more blood instead, falling back into her arms. Oracle: Please… I need you… Alph: You’re a brilliant woman, you’re an oracle… He gives another smile, a twinge of sadness on his face. Alph: You don’t need me… Oracle: I can’t do anything without you! I can’t see, I can’t cope… Alph: You need to try, Avis The world still needs you. Avis looks down, her voice getting quieter. Avis: The world’s going to end, Alph. We failed. Alph: Then at least meet it with strength. Avis: I can’t... Alph: You’re a strong woman. Stronger than you know. Avis: Not without you! Avis looks at Alph, more tears streaming down her face. Avis: You’ve always been there, I don’t… I don’t… Alph reaches up and holds the oracle’s head in his hands. Alph: You can. Alph: Do you remember when the temple was attacked by Sithis, and they held us captive in different rooms so you couldn’t see to defend yourself? The oracle gives a weak laugh. Avis: yes… Alph: You saved yourself… even when you couldn’t see. You can do it again. Avis: But… Alph: Don’t- he coughs up more blood, in a much larger quantity this time. don’t doubt yourself Avis. You can- he begins coughing up even more blood, trailing off his sentence. The oracle lays him back a bit more. Avis: Just rest, you’re… you’re gonna be okay, you’re… just stay with me please. Alph coughs again and shakes his head. Avis: You’re going to be okay, you’re… you can’t die right now… you… Alph’s chest heaves one last time, and then stops moving. Avis curls up over Alph, sobbing. In the background, Piono has cut down all but three of the entourage and two of the assassins. While Avis cries over Alph, the camera begins moving in closer on Piono. Piono vaults upwards over the other combatants, and lands behind one of the assassins, running him and the entourage member in front of him through at the same time. The last assassin whirls around and tries to thrust at Piono only to have his hand cut off. Piono turns and looks at the two remaining entourage members, glaring. They look at each other and run off. The assassin comes up at Piono from the side, another knife at the ready, and Piono almost offhandedly slings a knife into the assassin’s face. The assassin, predictably, goes down. Piono sighs and slouches, his posture becoming much less “battle hardened” and more “exhausted”. Avis’ cries grow quieter as Piono slowly trudges his way to the main road, back towards the farmhouse. After a few seconds you can’t even hear the oracle anymore. Piono stops as the wind suddenly begins to pick up, whistling and howling. A low wail starts up. Piono blinks and turns around, looking back at the oracle, who is clutching her retainer to her chest still. Avis suddenly throws her head back and screams. Piono sprints towards her and begins pulling out his sword only to be blasted backwards by a powerful shockwave that knocks him and all the grass flat. The oracle, still screaming, begins to lift into the air slightly, her eyes glowing, and throws her arms outwards. Lightning begins to strike wildly, and walls of fire begin to spread out and rush over the grass, setting everything ablaze that isn’t immediately scorched black. Piono just barely rolls out of the way of one of the fire walls, having to put out a fire that it starts on his coat. Piono begins sprinting forward again, trying to push against the growing wind, which slows him down. Lightning continues striking down all around, almost completely aimlessly, and fires begin growing out from where the fire walls peter out. Piono trudges his way through the wind, trying to get around the firewalls and avoid the lightning strikes, towards the screaming oracle. Getting closer to the oracle, Piono plants his feet on the blackened ground, takes his sword, winds up, and throws. Snap shot to Avis, whose eyes stop glowing with a wet thud, going back to their regular glossy grey, blood starting to leak out of her mouth as she mouths a few words in shock, before dropping to the ground. Piono nearly topples over forward as the wind, lightning and fire walls all abruptly stop. Piono picks himself up off the ground and brushes himself off, though he’s still covered in soot, blood and dust. Piono walks over to the oracle’s fallen body, and pulls out his sword, before picking her up and setting her down next to fallen body of Alph. He leans over and closes both of their eyes. Piono: Together so in life… together so in death… Piono sighs and sits down on the ground next to the two bodies. Piono: Guess this is how it starts, huh? Piono looks out at the spreading fires. Piono: The world ends because two groups of people who didn’t want to fight felt they had to. Piono looks up into the sky. Smoke is starting to obscure the clouds. Piono: Don’t know why I’m talking to you two though… Piono sighs again and climbs to his feet. Piono: I better get going. It’s going to be a long walk to town as it is… Piono begins walking away into the burning night. Fade to black. Slower music than the opening, almost wistful, once again, the lyrics are in the pseudo-Japanese. Piono looks out over his burning farm, then turns his head and walks away. The screen switches to a view of bright daytime, with Piono, a woman/girl in a lavender riding dress following behind him, and a small fennec fox with a small bundle tied to his side right behind her. The three walk along as the background changes between a number of different scenes. The scene switches to the scene of a castle, a throne room to be precise, where a figure can be seen sitting in the throne, smiling. Fade to black.
